Patek Philippe Tasti Tondi Chronograph Ref. 1463

In the 1930s, Patek Philippe introduced their first chronograph wristwatches in the Reference 130 and 530. Shortly after, in 1940, the illustrious brand released their first (and only in the 20th century) waterproof chronograph, the Reference 1463. The challenge with creating a waterproof chronograph lay in the pushers, which is why the pushers on the 1463 differ from the 130 and 530. These round pushers with attractive decorative ends inspired the nickname tasti tondi by more modern collectors. Tondi (or singularly Tondo) is circular artwork created during the Renaissance era, short for the Italian word rotondo or round. As few as 750 examples were created between 1940 and the late 1960s, making top condition examples a rare find. This example, in yellow gold, features a phenomenal case with thick lugs, deep hallmarks and little sign of wear. An obvious highlight is the attractive dial with rare Breguet numerals and a wonderful vintage patina.
